About the Role
We are seeking a Facilities Engineer to support both facilities infrastructure projects and ongoing facilities operations in a lean, fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role blends engineering, construction project execution, and facilities management, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems, HVAC, and building utilities.
You will be a key partner to the Director of Facilities in delivering infrastructure projects, supporting daily operations, improving system reliability, long range planning, and mitigating risks. The role is hands-on and cross-functional, spanning project execution, preventative maintenance, contractor coordination, and continuous improvement across active manufacturing facilities. This position requires comfort operating in ambiguous environments, taking ownership from problem identification through resolution, and making sound engineering judgments with limited direction.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilities infrastructure projects:
• Lead and support facilities infrastructure projects from concept through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Develop and manage project schedules and budgets for small to mid-sized facilities projects.
• Develop project scopes, support cost estimates, and track scope, schedule, and budget impacts.
• Coordinate design and execution of projects involving electrical distribution, HVAC systems, and building utilities (compressed air, process water, domestic water, natural gas, drainage, etc.).
• Support permitting, plan review, and AHJ coordination in partnership with Facilities and EHS.
• Provide construction oversight, including contractor coordination, site walks, issue resolution, and punchlist closeout.
• Identify infrastructure capacity constraints, single points of failures, and system risks.
• Contribute technical input to capital planning and prioritization for a multi-year facilities infrastructure roadmap
Engineering, design & construction support:
• Support development and review of engineering design packages for facility systems.
• Perform field verification and site walks to validate existing conditions and inform design decisions.
• Review and manage contractor submittals and coordinate responses to RFIs.
• Coordinate utility routing and service connections to support manufacturing equipment and work centers.
• Maintain and update redlines and as-built documentation to reflect actual field installation.
Facilities operations, maintenance & reliability
• Support day-to-day facilities operations, troubleshooting issues related to electrical systems, HVAC, and building utilities.
• Processed gas commodities management (helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, argon, CO2) to support manufacturing processes.
• Help develop, implement, and improve preventative maintenance programs for facility systems.
• Coordinate inspections, servicing, and repairs with vendors and service providers.
• Support planned shutdowns, power outages, and equipment tie-ins, including development of methods of procedure (MOPs).
• Perform root cause analysis for facility failures and recurring issues and implement corrective actions.
• Provide support for occasional after-hours or emergency facility issues as required.
Contractor, schedule & budget management:
• Manage contractors and service providers performing facility work, maintenance, and repairs.
• Support bid evaluation, scope clarification, and contractor selection.
• Track contractor progress against schedule and budget and escalate risks as needed.
• Coordinate work sequencing to minimize disruption to manufacturing and operations.
Process improvement & cross-functional collaboration
• Identify and drive process improvements related to facilities operations, maintenance, and project delivery.
• Partner closely with Manufacturing, Operations, EHS, IT, and Security to ensure facilities infrastructure supports business needs.
• Support facility modifications related to new equipment installs, process changes, and space reconfigurations.
• Coordinate with EHS to ensure facility systems meet safety, fire/life safety, and environmental requirements.
• Communicate clearly with stakeholders on project status, risks, and operational impacts.
Codes, standards & compliance
• Understanding and support compliance with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA, NEC, and typical building, mechanical, and energy codes.
• Ensure facilities designs and installations align with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
About You:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 8-10 years of experience in facilities engineering, construction, or facilities management supporting industrial or manufacturing environments.
• Experience supporting facilities management, including operations, maintenance, and infrastructure reliability.
• Strong understanding of electrical power distribution, HVAC systems and controls, and building and process utilities.
• Experience managing projects, schedules, and budgets.
• Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, and typical building codes applicable to industrial facilities.
• Experience reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and maintaining as-built documentation.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and taking ownership with minimal supervision.
• Hands-on, field-oriented, and comfortable coordinating directly with contractors.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
Nice to Have:
• Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or other regulated industrial environments.
• Experience with commissioning, startup, and turnover to maintenance teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer in Training (EIT), or facilities-related certifications.
• Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS/BMS), controls, or energy management systems.
• Experience using or supporting a CMMS for work orders, preventative maintenance, and asset management.
What Success Looks Like:
• Facilities infrastructure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
• HVAC, electrical, and utility systems are reliable, maintainable, and scalable.
• Preventative maintenance and root cause analysis reduce unplanned downtime.
• As-built documentation is accurate and current.
• Facilities master planning is informed by clear understanding of infrastructure capacity, risks, and growth needs.
• Facilities operates as a proactive, trusted partner to manufacturing and operations.
